After working off and on site with the landscape, Marion Baeriswyl and D.C.P have shifted their focus to the terrain fashioned by stromatolites, rock produced by the organic absorption and discharge of microorganisms like bacteria which form accretionary (gradually built-up) layered structures that are conglomerates (that is, made up of parts from various sources). The two artists are inviting us to discover the slow time of processes in a system of absolute interdependence. In such a timeframe, the narrow space separating the individual from the collective becomes imperceptible. Called Champ – Champ libre is only one stage in the work, this future dance piece leads us to a moment where the focus is wholly on the present through another way of being alive.

Marion Baeriswyl and David Pita Castro (D.C.P) have had a very productive collaboration since 2015. Together they reflect on and deconstruct humans’ connection with time by pulverizing it (boredom, minute movement, invisible membranes between bodies), or even linking it to other forms of life (the natural or man-made landscape, microorganisms). Champ, a work in progress, springs from a 2026 residency at the La Grange Center for Transdisciplinary Research and Experimentation at the University of Lausanne.
